Transfiguration is a big, fancy word that is not used too often anymore.  In fact, it is mostly used when referring to this day in the church year.  Today is Transfiguration of Christ Sunday.  As far as I can tell, it is just a different way of saying change.

When Jesus came down from the mountain, the disciples could see that there was something different about him.  His face and clothes were sort of glowing.  They could not quite determine what was changed…

Each of you take one of these spoons and look with me at the back of it.  You can see your regular reflection there, right?  When we invite Jesus into our lives and try to love as he demonstrates, we are changed too.  Turn that spoon around now and look at your reflection on the front side.  It still looks like you, but with a little difference: that reflection is flipped upside down!

With Jesus in our lives and in our hearts, we don’t glow as he did coming down from the mountain, but we feel changed.
